Deputy visits Furness RAM

16th September 2016

The newest member of Furness RAM Lodge No 375 is Furness and South Lakeland group chairman Peter Schofield.
He was elevated at the meeting at Ulverston Masonic Hall in a ceremony which was witnessed by Deputy PrGM Geoffrey Lee.

Geoffrey Lee, Alan Jones, Dave Sear, Peter Schofield and Peter Thompson.

Peter is the managing director of Schofield Construction which employs some 60 people and provides services to local industry. This year he took part in the annual Keswick to Barrow walk, a 42 mile sponsored event, to raise funds for the British Heart Foundation.

A keen footballer in his younger years Peter now contents himself with the occasional round of golf. He sponsors the local professional football and rugby league teams as well as several amateur sports teams who would struggle to survive without such sponsorship. Needless to say he is well known locally and is an excellent ambassador for Masonry.

Worshipful Commander Dave Sear is part of Peter’s group team being the craft publicity officer. Helping Dave with the ceremony on the evening was Alan Jones who was Peter’s predecessor as group chairman and Peter Thompson who was his seconder for Furness RAM. Peter gave the explanation of the signs whilst Alan presented the working tools.

Rowly Saunders, who was group chairman when Peter Schofield was appointed group secretary, had proposed his membership of Furness RAM.
Conducting the candidate with great aplomb throughout the ceremony was senior deacon Bob Morrish ably assisted by junior deacon John Broadhurst.

Wardens Russ Greenhow and Ken Boon also played their part well in what Geoffrey described as an excellent ceremony.

During the evening Bill Glassey received his RAM certificate. It was delightfully explained by scribe Peter Hampson before being presented to Bill by Geoffrey.
